Manager, Communications & Publications

The US-China Business Council (USCBC)’s Washington, DC, office seeks to hire a full-time communications manager reporting to the vice president of communications and publications.

The USCBC communications and publications team is responsible for developing and executing a global communications strategy that delivers targeted messaging, trade reports, commentary, issue briefs, and digital publications to USCBC’s varied stakeholders. This individual will be the department’s digital lead, primarily responsible for managing the organization’s website, email newsletters, graphic design, filmed content, and social media platforms.

USCBC is a private, nonprofit organization of more than 270 American companies that do business with China. Founded in 1973 following the first formal exchanges between the United States and China by a group of interested companies, USCBC’s mission is to expand the US-China commercial relationship to the benefit of its membership, and more broadly, the US economy. Through close collaboration between offices in Washington, DC, Beijing, and Shanghai, USCBC provides extensive China-focused information, advisory, and advocacy services, along with events, to its multinational member companies.

Primary responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain USCBC’s website.
  • Draft and distribute email newsletters for the council’s publications.
  • Design and produce visual content (graphics, reports, event materials, and social media assets) for digital platforms.
  • Manage and grow USCBC’s social media presence, including writing posts and creating visuals.
  • Write, fact-check, copyedit, and proofread various products such as news and feature articles, reports, infographics, and email blasts.
  • Monitor analytics and produce reports to evaluate the performance of digital channels and refine strategy.
  • Integrate digital, email, and social media marketing campaigns strategically to support USCBC communication priorities.
  • Improve the reach of USCBC public affairs materials, including op-eds, blog posts, marketing materials, reports, and issue briefs, utilizing digital tools and platforms.
  • Support media outreach, including writing and distributing news releases, managing media lists, and responding to press inquiries.
  • Capture and produce multimedia content, including photography, filming, and editing short videos for events and social media platforms.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience managing websites using WordPress.
  • Experience using email template builders and email marketing platforms (ex. MailChimp, experience with Salesforce Account Engagement/Pardot and Stripo a plus).
  • Experience with graphic design tools, especially Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Experience managing social media platforms, including LinkedIn, X/Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Experience using Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, Hootsuite, and other social media analytics tools.
  • Experience with organizational brand guides to maintain brand consistency across all internal and external communications.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to adapt messages for various digital platforms and audiences. Capacity to think expansively and innovatively.
  • Solid analytical, project management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently to generate relevant ideas, identify internal and external authors for USCBC digital publications, develop compelling email experiences, and collaborate with colleagues on USCBC reports and other communication projects.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, on-brand content.
  • Previous experience at a trade association, think-tank, news publication, or research firm preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of three to five years of work experience in digital communications or related roles.
  • US permanent work authorization (US citizen or lawful permanent resident).
  • Knowledge of CRM a plus.
  • Familiarity with Chicago and AP style a plus.
  • Global public affairs experience a plus.
  • Audio and video editing experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin a plus.

Salary will be in the range of $60,000 – $80,000, commensurate with the candidate’s experience. Benefits include a hybrid work from home and office schedule, excellent health insurance options, generous vacation, holiday, sick leave allowances, and 10% of salary employer contributions into a SEP-IRA after one year of employment.
