Kaitlin Oujo serves as the Deputy Director of the Department of Energy (DOE) China Office at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.  She is responsible for advancing U.S. national security and economic interests by supporting the development of DOE and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) policies, priorities, and initiatives with China. 

Before her current assignment to Beijing, Ms. Oujo served as the Regional Manager for the Middle East and Africa in the NNSA’s Office of Radiological Security.  In this position, she worked with partners in the region to secure and remove radioactive material, reducing the risk that the material would be used in an act of terrorism.  Prior to joining the Office of Radiological Security, Ms. Oujo served as a Team Lead for the Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence.  She was responsible for managing the office’s relationship with the International Atomic Energy Agency and oversaw bilateral engagements in nuclear forensics. 

Ms. Oujo has been with the DOE for nine years, serving in various positions throughout the agency as a Foreign Affairs Specialist.  Prior to joining DOE, Ms. Oujo held positions in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, New York City Emergency Management, and the United Nations.    

Ms. Oujo received a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a Bachelor of Arts from the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University.  Ms. Oujo is originally from Brick, New Jersey and loves spending time at the Jersey Shore with her husband Niels.  She is a volunteer with the Junior League of Washington and is an avid figure skating fan.
