MOE is responsible for drafting and implementing programs, policies, and regulations pertaining to education. MOE also plans strategies for reform and development of education in China and manages educational funds and investment in China's national education system.
MOE drafts standards and requirements and examines teaching materials for primary and secondary schools. MOE also guides and manages higher education, graduate education, higher professional education, adult education, and continuing education, setting standards to establish these institutions, drawing up subject catalogues, and organizing national entrance examinations.
MOE drafts programs and policies for national linguistic work and sets standards for the study of Chinese language and languages of ethnic minority groups.
