- Participate in drafting and implementing laws, regulations, rules, and national policies for national standards. This includes examining, approving, numbering, and publishing state standards
- Manage funds for drawing up, or amending state standards, as well as dedicating funds for standards study
- Administer and guide relevant dissemination of information, education, and training regarding technology standards
- Harmonize and guide the standards process within industries and among localities, including the national standards technology commissions
- Attend International Standards Organization, International Electrotechnical Commission, and other international or regional standardization organizations on behalf of China; coordinate the participation of domestic government agencies or regions to international standards activities; sign and implement international standards treaties; organize and examine international cooperation and exchange projects; participate in the examination and approval of international standards
- Write reports and conduct consultation on relevant standards under the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade agreement
SAC was formed as an independent entity under the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine. It is responsible for establishing and supervising the implementation of national standards.
