Li Changchun

Li Changchun has served as a member of the Standing Committee of the CCP Politburo since 2002.
Born in February 1944, Li is a native of Dalian, Liaoning. He joined the CCP in 1965 and graduated from the Harbin Institute of Technology's Department of Electric Engineering in 1966.
After working for several years in a switchgear plant in Shenyang, Liaoning, Li served as deputy manager and manager of the Shenyang Electrical Control Equipment Co. and deputy secretary of the company's CCP committee. He was deputy secretary general of the Shenyang CCP from 1981-82 and vice mayor of Shenyang from 1982-83. Li was promoted to Shenyang CCP secretary and Shenyang mayor in 1983. From 1985-90, he served as deputy secretary of the Liaoning CCP and acting governor and governor of Liaoning.
Li also served as deputy secretary of the Henan CCP and acting governor and governor of Henan from 1990-92. He was promoted to secretary of the Henan CCP in 1992 and chair of the Standing Committee of the Henan Provincial People's Congress in 1993. In 1998, he was transferred and became Guangdong CCP Secretary, a post he held until 2002.
Li became a member of the CCP Central Committee Politburo in 1997, initially serving as an alternate member of the 12th CCP Central Committee Politburo. He was a member of the 13th-15th CCP central committees. Li was also a member of the Standing Committee of the 16th CCP Central Committee Politburo.
