The National Population and Family Planning Commission implements the state's policies, regulations, and rules on family planning and conducts planning, guidance, coordination, supervision, and promotional work related to family planning and the implementation of China's "One Child Policy." The commission works with other agencies to formulate policies in accordance with the state economic development goals but also provides people of childbearing age with information, facilities, and services about family planning in general. The commission's local branches are most active in urban areas where they can more easily reach women of childbearing age and influence their decisions on contraceptives and reproduction.
