July Issues Briefing
The Strategic and Economic Dialogue:
A Treasury Department Preview
Please join USCBC for a timely discussion on Wednesday, July 15 in Washington, DC, with David Loevinger of the Treasury Department on the upcoming Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED). The S&ED is the new, high-level dialogue between the US and PRC governments, led by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and their counterparts, State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Vice Premier Wang Qishan. The first S&ED will be held July 27-28 in Washington.
Loevinger has been minister-counselor for Financial Affairs at the US embassy in Beijing the past three years, but he will return to Washington early next month to be Treasury's lead coordinator for China Affairs and the S&ED. Please join us for a preview of the S&ED's priorities and agenda. A question-and-answer session will follow Loevinger's remarks.
The new S&ED, agreed upon by Presidents Barack Obama and Hu Jintao on April 1, represents the highest annual diplomatic exchange between the US and PRC governments. Strategic discussions will be led by Clinton and Dai, while economic discussions will be led by Geithner and Wang.
