CBR Vol. 31 No. 4 - Quick Service Hits China $4.00

China entered the modern fast-food era in November 1987 with the opening of the first KFC outlet in Beijing. Perhaps because KFC Corp., a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., was the first Western fast food company to enter the country and because chicken is popular in China, KFC remains the top quick-service restaurant (QSR, as the industry describes itself) in China today—in terms of sales and number of outlets. KFC now has more than a thousand outlets in the country, located in all provinces and autonomous regions except Tibet, which KFC may enter soon. The outlets serve more than 2 million Chinese each day.
