The US-China Business Council (USCBC) is a private, non-profit organization of nearly 280 American companies that do business with China. Founded in 1973 following the first formal exchanges between the United States and China by a group of interested companies, USCBC’s mission is to expand the US-China commercial relationship to the benefit of its membership, and more broadly, the US economy. Through close collaboration between offices in Washington, DC, Beijing, and Shanghai, USCBC provides extensive China-focused information, advisory, and advocacy services, along with events, to its multinational member companies.
USCBC’s Beijing office seeks to hire a Manager of Business Advisory Services, reporting to the Senior Director.
Primary responsibilities:
- Research, analyze, and write on China-related public policy that matters US business operation in China.
- Respond to individual member company inquires for information on business and trade topics; proactively build and maintain contacts within USCBC member companies;
- Content producer to write for USCBC publications, briefing papers and talking points;
- In collaboration with the government affairs team, design, coordinate and aid in coordinating and organizing implement USCBC programs and events;
- Prepare and present internally and externally on USCBC advocacy, business environment, and industry-specific policy developments;
- Assist with developing USCBC advocacy positions; develop and maintain relationships with representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, relevant US scholars, and think tanks;
- Proactively assist with new member recruitment and fulfill membership retention obligations;
- Coordinate intern hiring, scheduling, training and daily assignments;
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director
Qualifications:
- Mandatory requirement of high level of proficiency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written)
- Strong analytic and professional writing skills in public policy and business environment
- Preferred major in public policy, international relations, or law degree
- Minimum two years’ work experience, preferably in China;
- An understanding of and ability to communicate the dynamics of the US-China trade relationship, the business environment, and China’s government structure; very strong interest in researching, analyzing and writing about China’s business, economic, and policy environment in a timely manner;
- Minimum bachelors degree in an applicable field (business, law, public policy/political science, etc.); graduate degree preferred; strong critical thinking skills to develop a working knowledge of multiple subjects in a relatively short period of time;
- Ability to remain organized and detail-oriented while following regulatory developments in a variety of industries while responding to requests from member companies and USCBC headquarters;
- A high degree of initiative, professionalism, sense of responsibility, and dedication to quality;
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills; sense of humor and ability to working in a small team;
