The US-China Business Council (USCBC) is a private, non-profit organization of more than 280 American companies that do business with China. Founded in 1973 following the first formal exchanges between the United States and China by a group of interested companies, USCBC’s mission is to expand the US-China commercial relationship to the benefit of its membership, and more broadly, to a constructive, stabilized, and healthy bilateral commercial relations. Through close collaboration between offices in Washington, DC, Beijing, and Shanghai, USCBC provides extensive China-focused information, advisory, and advocacy services, along with events, to its multinational member companies.
USCBC’s Beijing office seeks to hire a Manager, Government Affairs & Business Advisory Services, reporting to the Senior Director of the Beijing Office.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Support the USCBC Beijing Office government affairs (GA) team in establishing and contributing to the development of the overall GA strategy
- Facilitate USCBC engagement with PRC government agencies, think tanks, scholars, and industry associations to accomplish organization mission
- research and analysis of China-related commercial policy, including responses to individual member company requests for information on business and trade topics, and contributions to publications, such as China Market Intelligence.
- Assist with and participate in USCBC events and programs, including but not limited to member briefings, government meetings, business roundtables, etc.
- Research, analyze and write on assigned industrial or issued driven
- Regularly contribute to USCBC’s newsletter and other publications
- Respond to inquiries from USCBC member companies on business operating issues and government policy
- Represent USCBC at conferences, external events, and meetings with member companies.
- Proactive contribute to member company recruitment and retention
- Handle administrative and other logistic responsibilities related to GA tasks as required
Required Qualifications:
- At least three years of professional experience on government affairs and public policy related, preferably with a foreign company, or international trade related organizations
- Min. Bachelor’s degree in English, economics, policy, law, international relations, or business-related field; an advanced degree is preferred
- Native Chinese speaker, with high level of proficiency in oral and written English
- Strong research, analytical, and communication skills
- Proven knowledge of government policy, political and geopolitical risk, Chinese government structure, issue identification and impact assessment
- Competent capability in drafting high-quality policy analysis and reports in both English and Chinese within a given time; candidates with proven records will be preferred
- Ability to take initiative, operate independently, and handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- High degree of personal responsibility and integrity
- Cooperative attitude, sense of humor, and ability to thrive in small but rewarding team environment
- Well organized and detail-oriented
