Beijing: Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) Implementation and the Outlook for US Firms
The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and US-China Business Council (USCBC) hosted Treasury officials Sharon Yuan, acting senior coordinator for China affairs and the S&ED, and Robert Dohner, deputy assistant secretary for Asia, to discuss the implementation of S&ED outcomes and the business outlook for US firms in China. Shanghai: Is the Economic Sky Falling? A Mid-Year Update and Forecast on China's Economy
Andy Rothman, China macro-strategist at CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets, and Barry Chen, managing director at InterChina Consulting, shared their views on China's economy. Rothman discussed China's macroeconomic outlook and its "mini stimulus," and Chen shared insights on China's sectoral growth and decline, investment, and costs. (July 19)
Minneapolis: Lunch Program on Current Issues in US-China Trade
USCBC and Faegre Baker Daniels LLP co-hosted a lunch panel addressing on-the-ground developments in the Chinese business environment, challenges for US companies in China, and managing PRC employees and Chinese labor laws. USCBC Vice President Erin Ennis, USCBC Shanghai Chief Representative Julie Walton, and Faegre Baker Daniels Shanghai Head of China Labor and Employment Practice Kevin Jones led the panel discussion. Seattle: Panel Discussion on Current Issues in US-China Trade
USCBC, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, and the Washington State China Relations Council (WSCRC) co-hosted a discussion on the latest developments in US-China trade politics and innovation in China. WSCRC President Joseph J. Borich moderated the panel, which included USCBC Vice President Erin Ennis and Davis Wright Tre-maine Partner Fraser Mendel. (May 22)

Washington: Debriefing on PRC Vice President Xi Jinping's Trip to the United States
USCBC, the US Chamber of Commerce, and the Coalition of Service Industries co-hosted a briefing with Jeff Prescott from the Office of the Vice President, and Evan Medeiros and Rory MacFarquhar from the National Security Council. Prescott, Medeiros, and MacFarquhar discussed Xi’s recent trip to the United States, including the outcomes and next steps on policy matters. (March 9)
Shanghai: Luncheon on Opportunities in Shanghai’s Strategic Emerging Industries
USCBC hosted a luncheon program with officials from the Shanghai Economic and Information Technology Commission (SEITC). Ma Jing, the chief engineer of SEITC, explained Shanghai’s 12th Five- Year Plan on Strategic Emerging Industries. Zhang Ying, division chief of the Technological Improvement division, and Han Dadong, deputy division chief of the Foreign Economy division within SEITC, answered questions on how to receive government financial support. Washington: CEO Roundtable with PRC Vice President Xi Jinping
USCBC, the US Chamber of Commerce, and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade co-hosted a CEO roundtable event with guests US Vice President Joe Biden and PRC Vice President Xi Jinping. The roundtable was the second dialogue between the vice presidents and business leaders from both countries, following a similar dialogue in Beijing in August 2011. Vice Presidents Xi and Biden addressed their commitment to commercial progress in US-China relations.
Shanghai: Luncheon on Shanghai’s Goals of Becoming a Financial and Trading Hub
Susan Ju, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Timothy Huang, COO of Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, discussed developments in customs, renminbi liberalization, cross-border settlements, and local financing options for companies that use Shanghai as a platform for international transactions. Washington: USCBC Gala with White House Chief of House, William Daley
The USCBC's 2011 Gala, held at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, DC, featured White House Chief of Staff William Daley as the keynote speaker. Nearly 400 people attended the event, which was co-sponsored by 38 USCBC member companies. Special guests included PRC Ambassador to the United States Zhang Yesui, Madame Ambassador Chen Naiqing, and Reps. Rick Larsen (D-WA) and Charles Boustany (R-LA), US-China Working Group co-chairs.
