Beijing Briefing: China’s Third Plenum and Economic Reforms with Deputy Director Yang Weimin
The US-China Business Council (USCBC) hosted a briefing with Deputy Director of the Central Financial and Economic Leading Group Office Yang Weimin on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Deputy Director Yang discussed China’s reform priorities laid out during the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) Third Plenum in November and the potential impacts the reforms might have on international companies operating in China.

The Emergency Committee for American Trade (ECAT) and US-China Business Council (USCBC) hosted a roundtable discussion with a delegation from the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) to discuss government procurement markets in the US and China. The discussion focused on the opportunities to promote procurement trade and address challenges in the US and China procurement markets, as well as the impact of China's accession to the World Trade Organization’s Government Procurement Agreement.
Washington JCCT Briefing with Commerce and USTR Officials
The US-China Business Council (USCBC) and U.S. Chamber of Commerce hosted a discussion with Craig Allen, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia at the Department of Commerce, and Claire Reade, Assistant US Trade Representative for China, on plans for the 24th Joint Commission on Commerce & Trade (JCCT). Allen and Reade led discussions with their Chinese counterparts in late November 2013 in preparation for the JCCT.

Some analysts have said that the leadership could lay out an economic reform agenda at this meeting which would address important domestic economic issues as well as key foreign company concerns.

The discussion focused on US-China trade relations, including energy, trade, and investment issues. The delegation consisted of companies in the financial services, energy, agriculture, and travel and tourism sectors and was participating in the University of Maryland College Park’s Maryland China Initiative for executive education on corporate management.
