Washington: CEO Roundtable with PRC Vice President Xi Jinping
USCBC, the US Chamber of Commerce, and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade co-hosted a CEO roundtable event with guests US Vice President Joe Biden and PRC Vice President Xi Jinping. The roundtable was the second dialogue between the vice presidents and business leaders from both countries, following a similar dialogue in Beijing in August 2011. Vice Presidents Xi and Biden addressed their commitment to commercial progress in US-China relations.
Shanghai: Luncheon on Shanghai’s Goals of Becoming a Financial and Trading Hub
Susan Ju, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Timothy Huang, COO of Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, discussed developments in customs, renminbi liberalization, cross-border settlements, and local financing options for companies that use Shanghai as a platform for international transactions. Washington: USCBC Gala with White House Chief of House, William Daley
The USCBC's 2011 Gala, held at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, DC, featured White House Chief of Staff William Daley as the keynote speaker. Nearly 400 people attended the event, which was co-sponsored by 38 USCBC member companies. Special guests included PRC Ambassador to the United States Zhang Yesui, Madame Ambassador Chen Naiqing, and Reps. Rick Larsen (D-WA) and Charles Boustany (R-LA), US-China Working Group co-chairs.
Washington: USCBC Board of Directors Meeting
The USCBC's board of directors held its semiannual meeting in December, which included discussions with US Secretary of Commerce John Bryson and Governors Jack Markell (D-DE) and Bob McDonnell (R-VA). The discussions covered the state of US-China commercial relations and how to increase engagement between governors and mayors of the United States and China. The directors also elected Stephen B. Dobbs of Fluor Corporation to join the board.
