This March, USCBC President Sean Stein visited China to participate in a series of meetings and activities, including the China Development Forum (CDF) in Beijing. Hosted by the Development Research Center of the State Council and organized by the China Development Research Foundation, CDF is a critical platform that convenes global business leaders, international organizations, and scholars to engage with top government leaders in China.
On the sidelines of CDF, USCBC facilitated dialogue between member company executives and key Chinese officials. These engagements provided members with direct access to senior policymakers, allowing for the exchange of business insights and the advancement of industry-specific priorities.
From March 22 to 23, USCBC convened a group of global member company CEOs to meet with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and with Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao in Beijing.
From March 20 to 26, Sean visited key central government ministries, with discussion topics spanning healthcare, market regulation, finance, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people exchange. Most of these meetings included USCBC’s China-based member executives. Below is the full list of meetings:
At the end of Sean’s visit, on March 27, USCBC’s Beijing office held its flagship China Operations Conference (CHOPs) and an evening reception themed “Charting a Course for Constructive Engagement.” Attended by representatives from over 120 member companies, the conference featured distinguished experts who provided insights into bilateral relations, China’s economic outlook, and strategies for building resilient value chains.
During the reception, which was attended by senior officials from both the Chinese and US governments, USCBC announced its formal participation in the Young Envoys Scholarship Program, underscoring its commitment to people-to-people exchange. Reception speakers included Li Chenggang, China international trade representative (minister’s level) and vice minister of commerce; Cai Wei, assistant minister of foreign affairs; Gregory C. May, deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Beijing; Li Xingqian, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; and Tang Wenhong, vice mayor of Beijing.
