Wang Menghui became minister of housing and urban-rural development in 2018. Since August 2016, he served as Communist Party Secretary of Shenyang, and as a member of the Liaoning provincial party standing committee. From May 2013 to August 2016, Wang was party chief of XIamen. From December 2011 to May 2013, he was vice governor of Fujian.

Born in 1960 in Jiangsu Province, Wang attended Tsinghua University, graduated with a degree in architecture, and obtained a master’s degree in engineering. Wang taught at Tsinghua for some years. In 1993, he left academia and began working in government in Guangzhou. He became mayor of Shanwei in May 2004, and party chief of Yunfu in September 2008.

In his new role as minister of housing and urban-rural development, Wang is currently focused on stabilizing housing prices through development of an effective price control mechanism, as well as fostering a stronger long-term rental market.
