'Tempered optimism' for the US-China dialogue

U.S. companies doing business in China will be watching for any commitments from Beijing at high-level economic and strategic talks in Washington this week.

They're pressing the State and Treasury departments to raise a litany of concerns Tuesday and Wednesday at the annual Strategic and Economic Dialogue, including China's intellectual property, cybersecurity, technology market access and agriculture policies, to name just a few, U.S.-China Business Council President John Frisbie said.

While China's leaders are talking reform, American companies are hearing mixed messages, Frisbie told reporters at a briefing Wednesday. "There's some positive movement in certain areas, but in other cases, not," he said, adding that the business community has responded with "tempered optimism."
