From Trump to Biden, Continuity and Change in the US’s China Policy

Biden has previously ignored calls by the business community to ease trade tensions with China. As the two countries approach the fourth year of trade war, there are indications that the Biden administration might remove some of the Trump-era tariffs—and bring new ones—though there is no clarity on this yet. China has urged the US to remove certain tariffs imposed during the Trump presidency and Biden may well oblige due to inflationary pressures that could threaten the electoral prospects of the Democratic Party in the midterm elections. Moreover, as per a US-China Business Council report in January 2021, scaling back tariffs could benefit the US economy and create more jobs.
