Trump support holding in Iowa despite China trade flap — for now

Trade is the major economic engine of many of Iowa’s predominantly rural counties that form the bulwark of support for Trump in the state. As recently as 2017, Iowa sold $2.1 billion in commodities and other goods to China, the state’s No. 2 market for exports that year, according to statistics compiled by the US-China Business Council, a nonprofit industry group representing American firms that operate in China.
