US-China Business Council Elects New Board Members Amid Heightened Bilateral Tensions

June 30, 2020, WASHINGTON, DC—Today, the US-China Business Council (USCBC) announced the election of new officers and board members, including its incoming chairman, Tom Linebarger, chairman and chief executive officer of Cummins Inc. 

“I’m honored to serve the USCBC with a strong team of business leaders,” said Linebarger. “We will continue the work of cultivating a relationship with China that is fair, respectful, and mutually beneficial. We have an opportunity to help inform policies that move the global economy forward and drive job growth.”

USCBC is a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of roughly 220 American companies that do business with China. USCBC President Craig Allen welcomed the election results at the Council, now in its 47th year of advocating for US companies doing business in China.

“USCBC is privileged to have a board consisting of many of America’s best business leaders,” said Allen. “Under Tom’s leadership, USCBC will continue to expand business opportunities and reduce barriers.”

“Every year is an important year,” said Allen, “but today we face a series of challenges that will shape the future of the world’s most important relationship.” He said that USCBC’s objective is to create a positive relationship that is good for American businesses and workers and creates a more level playing field. One of the first aspects of this work is to ensure that the Phase One trade agreement between the two countries is fulfilled.
