Gillian Elizabeth Daley is a government affairs manager at the US-China Business Council. Before joining USCBC, she served as an intelligence fellow at the Gordon Institute, a youth engagement fellow at the United Nations Foundation, and a regional fellow for IGNITE National. She has interned for two Florida state legislative offices and for the office of Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Gillian has a Master’s from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where she concentrated in strategic studies. She studied at Florida International University, where she pursued a double major in international relations and political science, as well as two certificate degrees in public policy and national security.
President-elect Donald Trump has wasted little time in announcing a series of nominations for key positions in his administration as he prepares for his second term. Many, if not all, of Trump’s nominees hold hardline views on China.
On September 26, the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued a proposed rule on securing the information and communications technology and services (ICTS) supply chain for connected vehicles (CVs). The proposed rule would prohibit several types of ICTS transactions, most notably the import of Chinese CVs and certain hardware absent an authorization from BIS.
Lawmakers in the US House of Representatives convened on September 9 to vote on a series of China-related proposals that have been circulating since March, including measures aimed at addressing China’s alleged unfair trade practices and other actions deemed threatening to US national security.
