WASHINGTON—April 5, 2024—The US-China Business Council (USCBC), a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization representing more than 270 American companies that do business in China, today applauds the US and Chinese delegations meeting in Washington this week to kick off the first meeting of the Commercial Issues Working Group, which was announced late last year by both governments.
“We are encouraged to see a strong bilateral mechanism for discussing business issues between the world’s two largest economies and alignment on topics such as clean energy, women’s health, and cross-border data flows,” USCBC President Craig Allen said. “We look forward to future opportunities for robust industry engagement and ways we can continue to serve as a resource for both governments to build trust and expand cooperation in commercial areas.”
USCBC co-hosted a reception for US Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago and China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen prior to Thursday’s meeting and provided a list of areas US companies would like both governments to address in advance of the working group session.
