USCBC Meets with China’s Vice Minister of Commerce

WASHINGTON, DC—August 29, 2025—The US-China Business Council (USCBC), a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of around 270 American companies that do business in China, today met with China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang.

USCBC Chairman and FedEx Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Raj Subramaniam led a USCBC delegation that met with Vice Minister Li and several senior Chinese trade officials at the Chinese embassy in Washington, DC. The USCBC delegation highlighted several key priorities for American companies operating in China, including the need for a level playing field, expanded Chinese imports of American goods and services, and speedier export control approvals. The delegation also expressed its support for further reform of China’s economy, urging a shift toward consumer-driven, sustainable growth.

Subramaniam was accompanied by USCBC members Avery (Hal) Nelson III, chief operating officer and executive vice president at Corning Inc.; Hon. Roger Martella, chief corporate officer and chief sustainability officer at GE Vernova; and Martin (Marty) Whalen, senior vice president of global policy and government affairs at Bristol Myers Squibb.

USCBC was joined by representatives from the US Chamber of Commerce.

Established in 1973, USCBC represents many of the world’s most iconic brands operating in China and has advocated on behalf of its members for more than 50 years, while promoting the many benefits of commercial exchange between the United States and China.
