Mary Barra of General Motors Co. joins USCBC board

WASHINGTON – December 4, 2014 – The US-China Business Council (USCBC) today announced the election of Ford Motor Company Chief Executive Officer Mark Fields as USCBC vice chair as well as the addition of General Motors Company Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra to the board.

“The US-China Business Council is the leading business organization helping American companies gain market access and reach new customers for American goods and services in China,” USCBC President John Frisbie said. “China continues to deliver important growth for our membership and is a strategic and commercial priority for many American companies.”

“With China now a $350 billion market for American companies, it is important for USCBC to have a strong board of American business leaders focused on expanding the US-China commercial relationship to its full potential,” Frisbie said. “USCBC’s membership is focused on market access, reducing investment barriers, and increasing IP protection, all in an effort to ensure American companies can compete on a level playing field in China.”

“A top priority for USCBC is the passage of a US-China Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT). USCBC’s leadership believes a US-China BIT can transform the commercial relationship for the better. A high-standard BIT with a minimal negative list will pick up the unfinished business of China’s WTO entry and open more markets to American companies.”

“USCBC officers and board members look forward to working with senior government officials in the United States and China to eliminate market barriers and foster new commercial opportunities for both nations.”

USCBC’s elected officers:

Chair, Ellen Kullman, chair and chief executive officer, DuPont

Vice chair, Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company

Vice chair, Paul D. Conway, vice chairman, Cargill, Incorporated

Vice chair, Mark Fields, chief executive officer, Ford Motor Company

Secretary-treasurer, Keith E. Williams, president and chief executive officer and trustee, UL LLC

Counsel, Andrew W. Shoyer, partner, Sidley Austin LLP
