Companies are more concerned about China’s data policies than ever before, citing rising compliance challenges, particularly around cross-border data transfer. The Chinese government late last year responded by publishing draft rules aimed at clarifying compliance requirements for cross-border data transfer, but companies are still searching for answers as the rules get finalized. This panel will examine the compliance challenges that companies face and offer best practices for navigating China’s unique data governance regime.

US-China Diplomatic & Security Concerns: Fireside Chat with Da Wei and Rick Waters
After enduring considerable ups and downs in 2023, the US-China relationship appears to have landed on a more stable path following the meeting between Presidents Biden and Xi at APEC last November. Since then, the two governments have launched more than a dozen bilateral dialogues on a wide range of policy issues, including re-establishing senior-level military-to-military talks in January following a two-year hiatus. Despite increased bilateral engagements, significant security flash points remain over Taiwan and the South China Sea. This panel will examine the current state of the US-China bilateral relationship, major risks in 2024, and the implications for US investment in China.

Speakers:

  • Dr. DA Wei, Director, CISS and Professor, School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University
  • Rick Waters, Managing Director, Eurasia Group
  • Moderator: Craig Allen, President, USCBC

Inside the US-China Race for Technological Supremacy
Competition over science and technology has emerged as one of the most contentious aspects of the US-China relationship. This panel will discuss the current state of bilateral technology competition and assess the policy trajectories in both countries. The panel will explore how governments use industrial policy and export controls to protect national security and promote technological development. The panel will also analyze how these policies affect US companies that do business in China.

Speakers:

  • Jeannette Chu, Vice President, National Security Policy, National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC)
  • Jimmy Goodrich, Senior Advisor, Technology Analysis, RAND Corporation
  • Paul Triolo, Associate Partner, China and Technology Lead, Dentons Global Advisors
  • Moderator: Zach Tomatz, Senior Manager, Business Advisory Services, USCBC

Shaping Global Trade: The Biden Administration's Economic Agenda with China
This panel will bring together key officials from the Biden administration to discuss the evolving dynamics of the US-China trade and economic relationship. This event promises a unique opportunity to uncover insights into the administration's latest engagements and future strategies with China.
