Business Advisory Services Manager

The US-China Business Council (USCBC) seeks a full-time Manager to join its Business Advisory Services (BAS) team in Washington, DC. This role combines policy research, economic data analysis, and member company engagement. The successful candidate will synthesize qualitative research and economic data to produce insights for USCBC’s reporting and advocacy efforts. The role is also highly entrepreneurial and requires regularly engaging executives at leading US companies on policy issues affecting their businesses in China, responding to member requests for information, and developing subject matter expertise across assigned policy and industry portfolios.
USCBC is a private, non-profit organization representing approximately 270 American companies that do business with China. Founded in 1973, USCBC works to expand the US-China commercial relationship to benefit its membership and the broader US economy. Through close collaboration across offices in Washington, DC, Beijing, and Shanghai, USCBC provides research, advocacy, advisory, and programming on China’s business environment and US-China commercial relations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze developments in China’s macroeconomic, trade, and investment policies, as well as economic security policies affecting the US-China commercial relationship
- Track and interpret China’s trade, investment, and economic data and translate findings into member publications, briefing materials, talking points, and advocacy materials
- Respond to individual member company inquiries on business and policy developments in China and maintain regular engagement with assigned member companies
- Contribute to USCBC publications, briefing papers, and internal analysis
- Present policy and economic analysis to executives at member companies
- Support the development of USCBC advocacy positions and policy recommendations
- Support the planning and execution of USCBC programs, briefings, and events
- Contribute to membership recruitment and retention by maintaining regular engagement with assigned member companies and cultivating member prospects
- Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business, economics, international relations, or political science; advanced degree, such as an MA or MBA, is preferred
- Professional working proficiency in Mandarin, both spoken and written, is required. Candidates must be able to quickly read, analyze, and synthesize Chinese-language policy documents, government publications, and media reports
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to organize, manipulate, and visualize datasets
- Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in a policy, research, government, or business environment. Experience working in China is strongly preferred
- Experience working with or advising the private sector on business, regulatory, or policy issues related to China is strongly preferred
- Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
- High degree of professionalism, initiative, and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment

Salary will be in the range of $64,000 – $80,000, commensurate with the candidate’s experience. Benefits include hybrid work from home and office schedule, excellent health insurance options, generous vacation, holiday and sick leave allowances, and employer contribution to an SEP-IRA after one year of employment.
