China

China has mapped out its priorities for building resiliency for future healthcare demands, with focus areas that include distributing medical resources equally, expanding clinical services, and undergirding innovation in digital healthcare services. At the same time, increase in local competition, unclear government procurement standards, anti-corruption campaign, and data transfer restrictions all pose challenges to MNC healthcare providers and induce them to explore new pathways to stay competitive in China.

Meanwhile in the US, a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced the BIOSECURE Act earlier in the year to limit US exposure to Chinese biotech companies. In May, the Office of the US Trade Representative announced it would impose $18 billion worth of new tariffs on Chinese-origin products in strategic sectors, including a range of medical supplies. The impact of the BIOSECURE Act and US tariffs against Chinese-origin medical supplies remains to be seen.

On June 20, USCBC is pleased to invite you to join a discussion centered around the emerging trends and policies in the healthcare sector in China, and areas MNCs should anticipate under the US-China tech rivalry in the biotech space. The event is an opportunity to bring together legal experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and healthcare professionals to explore new solutions and opportunities in China. We are honored to have Yongqing Zhao (Co-founder & Managing Partner, China Healthcare Innovation Platform Academy, a think tank affiliated with the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Health), Vivian Wu (Partner, Baker McKenzie FenXun), Hong Zhang (Head of Private Equity, Baker McKenzie FenXun), Zhenyu (Jay) Ruan (Partner, Baker McKenzie FenXun), and Xin Tao (Partner, Baker McKenzie Washington DC office) to share their insights.

The discussion topics will revolve around:

  • Localization and government procurement
  • Healthcare anti-corruption campaign
  • Cross-border data transfer in the healthcare sector
  • Emerging technologies in the healthcare industry (i.e., AI)
  • Impacts toward the healthcare sector from the BIOSECURE Act and Section 301 tariffs

Following the speakers’ presentation, attendees are encouraged to participate in the Q&A discussion.

The deadline to register for this program is on June 18 at 5:00 pm (China time). This event is for USCBC member companies and invited guests only. Registration is required. Please register using your work email.
