WASHINGTON, DC, June 5, 2018 – The US-China Business Council (USCBC), the leading organization of US companies engaged in business with the People’s Republic of China, today named Craig Allen, currently serving as US Ambassador in Brunei Darussalam, as USCBC’s new President, effective July 26, 2018.

Craig Allen succeeds John Frisbie as President of USCBC, which serves leading American companies in a wide range of industries from its Washington headquarters and representative offices in Beijing and Shanghai. Mr. Frisbie has led the group since September 2004.

Mr. Allen has led the US Embassy in Brunei since 2014. He has spent much of his career in the Asia region and on China-related issues from various posts within government. Mr. Allen has three times been posted to China, most recently serving as the Senior Commercial Officer from 2002-2005. He subsequently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia and also Deputy Assistant Secretary for China at the Commerce Department.

Evan Greenberg, Chairman and CEO of Chubb and Chairman of the US-China Business Council, welcomed the appointment by stating, “Craig’s deep experience with China, both from an economic and geopolitical perspective, will serve USCBC well to advance commercial opportunities for US business in China. Our members will benefit from Craig’s leadership and expertise. Craig will play an important role in articulating US business interests to government leaders in both the US and China.” Greenberg added, “At the same time, I would like to thank John Frisbie for his fourteen years of service as President of USCBC. John successfully led USCBC through a very dynamic period in US-China relations and has made a difference.”

Craig Allen welcomed the opportunity of leading the nation’s top China-focused business association during this challenging period. He commented, “The US-China Business Council’s role serving its members and directly engaging on policy issues is more important than ever. USCBC is comprised of leading American firms operating in China. I look forward to magnifying the voice of these companies and advancing their strategic agendas. There is no more important bilateral relationship in the world today, and business has a critical role to play. I want to thank my predecessor, John Frisbie, for leaving a solid foundation for me to build upon and I am excited by the opportunity to lead this prestigious organization in the US and China.”

In 2017, China was the United States’ second-largest overseas market, worth more than $550 billion.

Founded in 1973, the US-China Business Council provides extensive China-focused advisory services, public policy advocacy, business information, and program events to more than 200 American corporations.
