USCBC Annual Board Delegation Visit to China
Senior executives discuss measures to improve US-China commercial ties with Chinese state leaders
BEIJING — September 2, 2026 — Members of the US-China Business Council (USCBC) Board of Directors today concluded a two-day trip to Beijing to promote bilateral commercial ties and explore new opportunities for US businesses in China. The trip was led by USCBC Board Chair and Visa Chief Executive Officer Ryan McInerney.
“We greatly appreciate the open and constructive exchanges with senior Chinese officials on the operating environment for U.S. companies in China and the broader U.S.-China relationship. A stable, predictable, and balanced relationship is critical to building business confidence and creating opportunities that benefit people in both countries,” said Ryan McInerney. “USCBC can play an important role by serving as a bridge between government and the private sector and helping translate dialogue into tangible commercial outcomes. We look forward to continued progress in advancing the bilateral economic relationship between our two countries.”
The delegation had meetings with Premier Li Qiang, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Lecheng, Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, Vice Minister and International Trade Representative of the Ministry of Commerce Li Chenggang, and Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission Zhou Haibing. Additional meetings were held with Beijing Party Secretary Yin Li and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Chairman Ren Hongbin. US Ambassador to China David Perdue also met with the delegation.
The annual board delegation came at a consequential time in US-China relations given the planned high-level engagements in 2026. “Our visit underscored the US business community’s support for the two governments’ ongoing negotiations and for efforts to build a more stable, constructive, and mutually beneficial commercial relationship,” said USCBC President Sean Stein. “Chinese officials emphasized that China welcomes US companies and is committed to improving the environment for foreign investment. Our meetings also provided an important opportunity to speak candidly about the challenges American companies continue to face in China and the practical steps that can strengthen business confidence. President Xi’s upcoming visit presents an important opportunity for the two governments to make progress on shared economic priorities, address longstanding commercial concerns, and establish a stronger foundation for US-China commercial relations.”
