Gala 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC—January 11, 2023—US-China Business Council President Craig Allen met virtually with China’s Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao to exchange views on the state of US-China trade and investment relations, views of the American business community on challenges and opportunities for doing business in China, and thoughts on China’s reform and opening plans in 2023.
Allen expressed a desire for further engagement between the US and Chinese governments, and a need for tangible reform steps to put the bilateral relationship on a better trajectory. Wang indicated that the Biden-Xi meeting in Bali in November 2022 set the tone for the relationship in the year ahead. Wang also noted that China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) is willing to seek common ground with its US government counterparts while still maintaining differing views on challenging issues in the relationship, and to work with the American business community on their priority concerns.
Minister Wang was joined in the meeting by several high-level MOFCOM officials.
