USCBC-NCUSCR Joint Statement Following Event to Welcome President Xi Jinping
SAN FRANCISCO—November 15, 2023—The US-China Business Council (USCBC) and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations (NCUSCR) today hosted a dinner in honor of President Xi Jinping, following the long-anticipated meeting between President Biden and President Xi during the 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Meeting in San Francisco.
US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo delivered a welcome on behalf of the administration before President Xi addressed the audience of nearly 400 business leaders, government officials, American citizens, and academics. California Governor Gavin Newsom and Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis also attended the event. Remarks can be viewed in their entirety on USCBC and NCUSCR websites.
Both organizations issued the following statement:
“We were honored to host President Xi consistent with our longstanding tradition of co-hosting events for visiting leaders from China. These events give people from both countries the opportunity to hear directly from Chinese and US government leaders. Constructive communication leads to a more stable and productive US-China relationship and is in the best interest of both countries and the global community.”
This event was organized in cooperation with the Asia Society, Council on Foreign Relations, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and China General Chamber of Commerce – USA.
