Gala 2024
WASHINGTON, November 14, 2022—The US-China Business Council applauds the recent meeting between Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit in Bali. In the current atmosphere of bilateral tensions, the three and a half hour meeting between the two leaders underlines the importance of the US-China relationship to our countries and the world. USCBC—a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of over 280 American companies that do business with China—fully supports the United States and China’s mutual interest in seeking to stabilize bilateral relations and working collaboratively as global leaders as much as possible.
“We’re glad to see that the two leaders spoke candidly about difficult issues,” said USCBC President Craig Allen. “It is impossible to overstate the importance of regular high-level dialogue, not only for the United States and China, but for the global community.”
Allen continued: “USCBC is pleased that Cabinet-level officials from both countries will hold further discussions on areas of disagreement and we hope commercial issues will be on the agenda. Regular and close bilateral contact is indispensable for responsibly managing competition, lowering the temperature of the relationship, and working together to address issues of shared interest. Now, we hope a new framework can take shape to advance confidence building measures and tackle longstanding issues in the bilateral relationship.”
“We hope that this in-person meeting between Biden and Xi can be the first of many, and we welcome the announcement that Secretary Blinken will soon be visiting Beijing to continue the discussion. USCBC looks forward to continuing to act as a bridge between both countries.”
