USCBC Statement on Phase One Deal Signing
WASHINGTON – January 15, 2020 – The US-China Business Council applauds the phase one agreement reached by US and Chinese trade negotiators. This agreement is a concrete step towards restoring stability and trust in the overall US-China relationship.
The agreement also represents real progress on removing market access restrictions, improving intellectual property rights protection, re-balancing our trade ties, and introducing an important and new dispute resolution mechanism.
Looking ahead, monitoring and enforcement of the phase one commitments will be key. USCBC and its member companies look forward to supporting both governments to implement the agreement effectively.
“This is an encouraging first step that should benefit many of our members,” said USCBC President Craig Allen. “But the work isn’t done yet. Implementation of the agreement will be critically important. Moreover, the phase one agreement should be swiftly followed by continued phase two negotiations on remaining issues.”
Allen went further to note: “We urge both governments to use the phase one agreement as a foundation for building a stronger, fairer bilateral relationship that ensures a level playing field for Americans in China’s rapidly growing market.”

艾伦会长同时表示：“我们敦促两国政府以第一阶段协议为基础，建立更为强大、更加公平的中美双边关系，确保美国企业在中国快速增长的市场中享有公平的竞争环境。”
