WASHINGTON, DC, July 6, 2018 – In response to today’s imposition of US and Chinese tariffs on $34 billion in imports to each country, US-China Business Council (USCBC) Senior Vice President Erin Ennis issued the following statement:

“The US-China Business Council is disappointed that the United States and China have chosen to move forward with tariffs instead of sitting down together to work out solutions that will address the real concerns that American companies have about China’s intellectual property protection and technology transfer policies. As we have stated repeatedly, tariffs will not solve those problems, but will damage US economic interests.

“Rather than continuing down a path of imposing more tariffs, it is time for both governments to put the focus back where it should be — increasing access to China’s market and leveling the playing field for foreign companies. We need solutions that will make substantive progress on those issues.”
