USCBC Urges US-China Cooperation on AI Use

Washington, DC — September 17, 2026 — The US-China Business Council (USCBC) supports dialogue on AI between the United States and China, building on the consensus of strategic stability reached by the two presidents in May.

As two leading nations in the development and deployment of AI, the United States and China share an interest in managing the risks associated with AI systems, including loss of control, misuse by malicious actors, and disruption to economic and social systems.

The United States and China should create formal channels to discuss AI safety, consult on AI policies, manage significant AI incidents, and align on technical and evaluation standards. At the same time, the two countries should avoid measures that unnecessarily restrict market and supply chain access.

Given the urgency of this issue and the central role that businesses play in the use of AI, industry must be at the table in bilateral and plurilateral discussions, and USCBC stands ready to support these efforts.
