USCBC Welcomes Rory Murphy as New Head of Government Affairs
Murphy’s US-China Trade Expertise was Honed at Squire Patton Boggs, the Export-Import Bank, and the Senate Finance Committee
WASHINGTON—February 22, 2022—Today, US-China Business Council (USCBC) President Craig Allen welcomed Rory Murphy as vice president of government affairs in the Washington, DC, office.
“Rory has a distinguished record working with Congress and the private sector on complex trade issues involving the United States and China, and we’re delighted to have him on our team,” said Allen. Murphy arrives at a consequential time for the council’s more than 260 members, many of them among the world’s best-known brands. The US-China commercial relationship remains strained by government-to-government tensions, trade and investment restrictions, tariffs, the COVID-19 pandemic, human rights concerns, nationalist public sentiment, and more.
“I am excited to join the council’s robust team of experts during what will no doubt be a busy time in the bilateral relationship,” said Murphy, who until recently was a lobbyist and attorney at Squire Patton Boggs, specializing in international trade with a focus on China. “I’m looking forward to continuing my work on US-China policy and advocating on behalf of the council’s members.”
Murphy has worked in the policy office of the Export-Import Bank of the United States where he advised the chairman and board on a variety of issues. Previously, he was a professional staff member of the Senate Finance Committee, providing international trade advice to then Committee Chair Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) and other members. Murphy received an undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University and a law degree from the Catholic University of America.
He succeeds Anna Ashton, who had been with USCBC for six years.
