Christian M. Marchant

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Christian Marchant is the Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Before arriving in China, Christian served for more than two years as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, and previously was Political and Economic Counselor at the mission. Earlier in his career, Christian was Political Chief at the American Institute in Taiwan, and he has also worked in Washington, DC as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, and as the External Political Unit Chief in the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs. His other overseas tours include Hanoi, Vietnam; Prague, Czech Republic; and Beijing, China. In 2010, Christian received the Department of State’s Human Rights and Democracy Achievement Award for his work to expand religious freedom and find creative approaches to human rights cooperation in Vietnam by assisting efforts to sign and implement the UN Convention Against Torture.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Christian worked on Capitol Hill and in elective politics. Christian was Legislative Director/Deputy Chief of Staff for former Congresswoman Melissa Hart and previously worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee. He has assisted and managed political campaigns in Pennsylvania, California, Delaware, and Utah. Christian calls central Kentucky home and is a graduate of Brigham Young University. He and his wife Jennie have three children. He speaks Chinese, Vietnamese, Czech, and Slovak.

马志安为一名资深职业外交官，现任美国驻北京大使馆政治事务公使衔参赞一职。来华履新之前，在美国驻奥斯陆大使馆担任代理副团长达两年多之久，此前则任职该使团政治与经济事务参赞。马志安早期的职业外交生涯包括，曾于美国在台协会担任政治组组长，在华盛顿特区任职分管政治事务副国务卿的特别助理，在中国及蒙古事务办公室担任对外政治组组长。其他海外派驻地包括越南河内、捷克布拉格、中国北京。2010年，马志安获颁国务院人权和民主成就奖，以表扬他通过协助签署并落实联合国禁止酷刑公约的努力，致力于在越南扩大宗教自由和寻求有创意的方式进行人权合作。

在加入外交服务之前，马志安在国会山任职，从事民选政治。他担任前国会议员梅丽莎·哈特立法事务主任兼办公室副主任，之前亦任职过参议院司法委员会。他也曾在宾夕法尼亚州、加州、德拉瓦州和犹他州协助、管理过政治竞选活动。马志安来自肯塔基州中部，毕业于杨百翰大学。他和妻子珍妮育有三名子女。通晓普通话、越南语、捷克语和斯洛伐克语。
