Business Advisory Services Manager or Senior Manager

The US-China Business Council (USCBC) seeks a full-time manager or senior manager to join its Business Advisory Services (BAS) team in Washington, DC.

USCBC is a private, non-profit organization representing approximately 270 American companies that do business with China. Founded in 1973, USCBC works to expand the US-China commercial relationship to benefit its membership and the broader US economy. Through close collaboration across offices in Washington, DC, Beijing, and Shanghai, USCBC provides research, advocacy, advisory, and programming on China’s business environment and US-China commercial relations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze developments in China’s technology and AI policies and US policies related to technology competition, including export controls
  • Respond to individual member company inquiries on business and policy developments in China and maintain regular engagement with assigned member companies
  • Contribute regularly to USCBC publications, briefing papers, and internal analysis
  • Present analysis and policy developments to senior executives at member companies
  • Develop and maintain relationships with representatives from US government agencies and analyze US commercial and trade policies of interest to USCBC members
  • Support the development of USCBC advocacy positions and policy recommendations
  • Support the planning and execution of USCBC programs, briefing, and events
  • Contribute to membership recruitment and retention by maintaining regular engagement with assigned member companies and cultivating member prospects
  • Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business, economics, public policy, international relations, political science, or a related discipline required; advanced degree such as an MA, MBA, or other graduate degree preferred
  • High level of proficiency in Mandarin, both spoken and written. Candidates must be able to read and analyze Chinese-language policy documents and media sources quickly
  • Minimum two years of relevant professional experience for manager level, or three to seven years or more for senior manager level in a policy, research, government, or business environment. Experience working in China is strongly preferred
  • Experience working with or advising the private sector on business, regulatory, or policy issues related to China is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of US trade policy and economic security issues related to China
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism, initiative, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment

Salary will be in the range of $70,000 – $95,000, commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
