USCBC and Other Leading Business Organizations Meet with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in New York
NEW YORK—September 20, 2023—Members of the US-China Business Council (USCBC), a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of 275 American companies that do business in China, today met with China’s Vice President Han Zheng in New York as world leaders gathered for the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
“We stressed to Vice President Han that the US-China economic relationship has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on both countries and that US businesses are committed to supporting further constructive engagement, including through the framework recently announced by Secretary Raimondo and Minister Wang. For US business optimism to improve, it is important to address bilateral tensions and commercial challenges,” said USCBC President Craig Allen. “We also emphasized opportunities for cooperation to address global challenges, such as on climate change and health, which are important elements of the UNGA agenda, as well as the importance of the Chinese government creating a more predictable policy and regulatory environment to facilitate increased US economic investment in China—the vast majority of which does not involve national security—to further promote innovation and increase the vitality of both countries.”
USCBC was also represented in the meeting by board vice chair Darius Adamczyk, Executive Chairman of Honeywell, board member John Waldron, President and Chief Operating Officer of Goldman Sachs, and board member Angela Hwang, Group President of Pfizer Biopharmaceuticals.
They joined others from the National Committee on US-China Relations (NCUSCR), the US Chamber of Commerce, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and the Asia Society, who also attended the meeting.
Last month, Allen coordinated the first USCBC board delegation to China since 2019, which took place just days before US Secretary Raimondo traveled to Beijing and Shanghai to meet with government officials and US business leaders.
